St. Ignatius Loyola Parish experienced a profound loss with Fr. Art Wehr, S.J.’s death by suicide. In response to that heartbreaking event, our parish began a formal Mental Health Ministry dedicated to fostering awareness, education, and hope.
We would be honored to have you and members of your faith community join us for our first-ever Community Wellness and Education Event, to be held on Saturday, October 10th, in our gymnasium, with doors opening at 2:30 PM.
At 3:00 p.m., the internationally acclaimed comedy troupe One Degree of Separation will give a presentation. One Degree of Separation uses their medium to enter a discussion of depression and suicide. Their mission is to bring dialogue, awareness, and acceptance to depression through laughter and vulnerability. They aim to eliminate the stigma of depression through their troupe of comedians who share stories of hope, happiness, and triumph. They believe that everyone either suffers from depression or knows someone who suffers from depression — hence, One Degree of Separation.
After One Degree of Separation’s presentation, Dr. Greg Gisla, a Jesuit High School graduate and noted local psychologist and therapist, will give a presentation on “Signs to Look For.”
In addition, an area will be available for attendees to visit information tables hosted by local mental health organizations and browse materials and mental health resources.
